REACTION - Much like Alan Wake 2, Banisher’s delay is a shrewd move

A logical conclusion, Captain.

No-one could have predicted that 2023 was going to wrap up with the all flavours platter of releases that we’ve ended up getting, and as we approach this critical window, big titles are competing for discourse and pre-orders. It’s so saturated with gargantuan drops that there’s already been some shuffling to better accommodate the madness; Alan Wake 2 bumped itself on a couple of weeks to the end of October, and now Focus Entertainment’s Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is following suit with a slightly longer delay.

Now due to arrive in February 2024, the game is apparently complete and ready to rock. But by separating it from the Assassin’s Creed: Mirage’s and Spiderman 2’s of the world, Banishers has a better chance of establishing itself, especially as a new IP from a proven studio. Don’t Nod and Focus have collectively acted in the games best interest, and with any luck, the end product will be better for it.

The old adage of a delayed game is eventually good should hopefully ring true here. Focus Entertainment have been a reliable well of AA and original IP, and they deserve to have their latest effort see the light of day without having to fend off a bunch of heavy hitters in well established franchises. Just let it breathe, baby!

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
