REACTION - Guardians Of The Galaxy On Game Pass Hopefully Paves The Way For A Sequel

Making or breaking.

In a frustratingly recurring pattern for the publisher, Square Enix have determined that Guardians of the Galaxy didn’t meet their expectations. It reviewed extremely well, charted in a decent spot, and player sentiment has been very positive indeed. The exact target it failed to meet is something we’ll likely never know, but at first glance their response would indicate a lack of enthusiasm for a follow up.

However, news that Eidos Montreal’s blockbuster take on the popular characters will be heading to Game Pass is potentially the shot in the arm / dipping a toe that Square Enix will need to evaluate the possibility for more. It’s a game that I personally hadn’t purchased, but always intended to nab in a sale. So once again, Game Pass is lowering the barrier of entry, and opening up focused, single player experiences like this to a whole new audience.

Even though current trends skew toward microtransactions and premium DLC, Guardians embraces neither concept. It’s a linear adventure with a specific story to tell, and that’s a flavour I consistently appreciate. It would be so jolly for Eidos Montreal to get another crack at it, and I know I’m definitely looking forward to checking it out.
