REACTION - Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is getting DLC, which further cements Ubisoft’s commitment to meaningful post launch support

More stabbing inbound.

It was never a guarantee that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Ubisoft’s back to basics spin on the classic franchise, was ultimately going to persist in their future plans. But the recent jolly reveal that there is a bunch of DLC being prepped, including free new modes, is a positive sign for a game that apparently had quite a soft arrival.

Ubisoft games tend to have a significant sales tail, and their strategy of consistent post launch support lends itself well to this trend. When there appears to be a recurring theme of big publishers being more risk averse and only wanting to double down on proven wins, it’s gratifying to see a spin off like The Lost Crown find enough of an audience to justify further investment.

After Helldivers 2 has done extremely well as a middle tier priced title, the idea that focused experiences at a reasonable RRP are connecting with a ravenous audience is a pleasing sentiment. With any luck, this will make less forward thinking execs become more willing to greenlight projects that might not end up being sales monsters, but can still find success through longer term engagement with the community.

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
