Perfect catch.

It’s an open secret around these parts that I think Knockout City is among the best new IP’s of the year to date, and with the imminent arrival of Season 2, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to break down stuff we expect to get, and dream concepts we’d love to see. Whether you’re syncing up with buddies, or smashing it in the solo ranked playlist, KO City has been a thoroughly engaging and consistent go to for me since launch, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

BETS

RICHOCHET - Velan Studios have promised a new map, more themed events, a whole fresh batch of cosmetics, and a new special ball in the upcoming Season. I’m calling it now: the new special ball is a ricochet ball, where you can use the environment to alter the trajectory of your throw. I should add: I am not any kind of “insider” here, so if this turns out to be true, then that’s extremely jolly!

COVER - My bet for the new map is something to do with dynamic cover; perhaps something where you can use dodgeballs to hit switches to lower and raise individual walls or other items. The trade off here is that while you might have exposed your opponents position, you’ve had to throw a ball in order to do it.

CROSSOVERS - After Zombie Army 4 added Left 4 Dead characters, it feels like anything is possible when it comes to mixing IP. Especially with a publisher like EA, who have a huge staple of studios and games at their disposal. I think Season 2 will see some kind of tie in with another franchise. Perhaps a limited time store takeover, or a map remix similar to the current Midnight Madness event.

DREAMS

MORE CONTEXT - I would love to see some narrative elements introduced, giving context to the dodgebrawl tournaments and the overall game itself. Although I’m not a huge fan of the character design, the various in game locations have a lot of personality, and it might be fun to introduce some optional elements that help build on the world of Knockout City.

A.I. MATCHES - The ranked playlists can sometimes have extended wait times, as the game tries to find a match with ideal conditions. So adding some kind of A.I. scrimmage while you wait would be a fun way to pass the time. Throw in scalable difficulty and the option to choose maps and special balls, and you’d go into each round properly warmed up.

HIDEOUT EXPANSION - If would be great if the Hideout was made available even when you’re already in matchmaking beyond your initial round, and its functionality expanded beyond just catching practice and a selection of special balls. Get some silly mini games in there, and some more interactive elements!

Season 2, baby! Bring it on! Yeah! Pow!
