There’s plenty of valid discussion to be had about the increasing retail cost of games relative to ballooning development overheads and scaling up of teams and project scope. In spite of all that, we believe that The Last of Us Part 1 still deserves a nod and is a serious contender.

Yes it may appear to be low hanging fruit in terms of an obvious choice (especially given our ongoing love of Factions multiplayer), but Naughty Dog have clearly poured an enormous amount of love into recreating and enhancing the original game. It’s a great technical show piece for the PS5, and still every bit as enthralling and intense.

The only blotch against it is the lack of that delightful aforementioned multiplayer mode, but the inclusion of a fully rebuilt “Left Behind” expansion at least gives us a retelling of the complete story.
