REACTION - Old Gods of Asgard are releasing a vinyl of their greatest hits from Alan Wake and Control, and that’s amazing

The best decision.

Poets of the Fall are the talented group behind Old Gods of Asgard, the fictional in game band that has crossed over into various Remedy developed projects. They took on a much bigger role in Alan Wake 2, including a particular sequence called “We Sing” that might be one of the best live action / videogame musical mashups we’ve ever experienced. As if this wasn’t jolly enough, they are planning to release a CD, streaming, and yes a Vinyl version of their Greatest Hits.

“Herald of Darkness” from Alan Wake 2 is a 14 minute banger of a sequence that straddles various genre and also contextualises just how meta and absurd Remedy are willing to get in pursuit of telling their story. It also serves as a celebration of Poets of the Falls’ twenty year pedigree, and hopefully a sign that there’s much more for them that lies ahead.

Old Gods of Asgard’s “Rebirth - Greatest Hits” is due to drop on December 8th 2023. You can nab it here.

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
