REACTION - Star Trek: Infinite isn’t a mobile game and we’re thrilled

Divert power to hype.

We should preface this by stating that there’s nothing inherently wrong with strategy games on phones and tablets. It’s just the memory of that dodgy Command and Conquer mobile reboot still stings, and given the run of bad licensed titles that tend to grace the various app stores, our initial response to Infinite was tepid at best.

Then I read the press release. This is a full blown PC strategy title from Paradox Interactive and Nimble Giant. It’s set just prior to the TNG era. It’s basically Armada 3, and that instantly catapults this up my list of most anticipated for the year. Only a brief gameplay snippet has been revealed so far, but it looks to be in line with other Paradox releases like Stellaris.

Warp speed NUMBA ONE.

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
